Press Release Body: Lancaster, OH - October 11, 2007 - Central Ohio author Tami McCandlish has just published a research-backed memoir, Flying Grounded, which chronicles her personal struggle and spiritual triumph over female bullying. This form of emotional and psychological bullying occurs when an alliance of people target another individual with rumors and gossip, exclusion, betrayal, silent treatments, dirty looks, name-calling, mocking laughs, cyber-bullying, and many other indirect tactics that are generally socialized with girls and women.
In this newly released book, McCandlish writes of how, as a teenager, she loved life. She was an honor roll student, star athlete, and was happy, outgoing, and confident. However, those blissful days were cut short when the relentless, highly destructive strategies of an all-girl alliance sent McCandlish's emotional well-being and stability into a downward spiral.
As a result of the abuse by her peers, McCandlish found herself becoming a reactive aggressor, a characterization that further ostracized her from her classmates, friends, and community and left her battling depression and pleading to God that He would end her life. Not until her adult years did she connect with the power of Jesus Christ and overcome the many wounds of her past.
McCandlish's story illustrates the complex problem and secret suffering felt by many girls and women. Through her extensively documented experiences, she successfully demonstrates the importance of helping females find the validation they need to cope with relational aggression, evaluate their relational experiences, raise their standard of compassion, and explore their faith.
Flying Grounded is available at www.iuniverse.com or 1-800-AUTHORS.
McCandlish holds a B.A. in English and journalism from Ohio Wesleyan University and is also the founder and president of The Triumph Organization, a nonprofit dedicated to dealing with female bullying through awareness, education, and tools that promote healthy communication and competitiveness.
